Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was spotted watching on at the academy as the Reds’ U21 side were held to a 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
The 29-year-old was pictured in attendance as 17-year-old talent Ben Doak played the full 90 minutes on his return from injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn’t featured for Jurgen Klopp’s senior team since coming off the bench for the final five minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League at the start of the month.
The former England international is out of contract at Anfield this summer, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to receive an extension proposal anytime soon.
Oxlade-Chamberlain spotted watching the U21’s yesterday
As sad as it is, it seems like Ox’s career on Merseyside is soon coming to an end.
He has made 144 appearances for the club, during which he has amassed 18 goals and 15 assists.
The former Arsenal midfielder has won numerous accolades at Anfield, including a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, an FA Cup, a Carabao Cup, as well as a Club World Cup and a Supercup.
However, his stint at Liverpool has been overcast by injuries.
He has never managed to go a season without sustaining significant issues, meaning Jurgen Klopp has never truly been able to rely on him.
Therefore, perhaps he was at the U21 game yesterday to gain experience with youth coaching – possibly exploring another avenue for when his football career comes to an end.
