Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has labelled Liverpoolâs Jurgen Klopp as one of the best managers in Premier League history.
Howe and Klopp are set to go head-to-head at St Jamesâ Park tomorrow. And speaking in his pre-match press conference earlier this afternoon, the former Bournemouth manager heaped praise on his rival.
âWhat heâs [Klopp] done has been incredible. How his team has played over a consistent time is unrivalled so, to me, heâs one of the very best of all-time in the Premier League,â gushed Howe.
After some recent spats between these two clubs, itâs nice to hear some positive words. Hopefully Jurgen can prove him right with a win tomorrow.
Howe and Klopp talk each other up
Despite Klopp causing some controversy with comments regarding Newcastleâs finances recently, the two managers seem to get along well.
Klopp too was asked today about the job Howe has done since taking over in the North East. It wasnât quite the lengths Howe went to when speaking about him, but the Reds boss is obviously a fan nevertheless.
âEddie came there in a difficult situation, they stayed comfortably in the league. The new season itâs not like you didnât recognise the team â a complete overhaul or whatever â itâs building on the team they have, improving players who are there,â Klopp said in his own pre-match chat with the press.
âLike Almiron â I always liked him but the way theyâre playing now fits him extremely well. Callum is a fantastic striker, brining Isak makes absolute sense, Bruno Guimaraes is a massive player for them. Trippier came in [as well], but lots of players are still there and that speaks volumes about the manager.â
Weâll see how long the niceties last tomorrow, but for now the two men are happy clapping each other on the back.
In truth, both deserve the praise. Some may point to the fact he only has one league winners medal, but Klopp is clearly an all-time Premier League great. Given his achievements with Borussia Dortmund and on the continent with Liverpool, heâs an all time great full stop.
Howe isnât in the same bracket, but heâs doing a marvellous job at St Jamesâ Park. Heâs been the perfect manager for Newcastleâs rebuild and looks set to take them to greater heights.
He doesnât often get the better of our Jurgen when they come up against each other, though. Letâs hope thatâs something that carries on tomorrow.
