Rio Ferdinand now says he would actually pick Mohamed Salah over Sadio Mane

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he would pick Liverpool star Mohamed Salah over former Red Sadio Mane if he had to choose between the two attackers.

Speaking on an episode of ‘This or That’ on his FIVE YouTube channel, the former Manchester United defender was tasked with selecting the better player out of a prime Salah and a prime Mane.

“I don’t think that there’s anything between them, it’s a hard one to pick for me,” Ferdinand said.

“Prime time Mane or prime time Salah. Listen, remember what Salah was doing – do not forget. Do not forget – unplayable. I don’t think you can replace either with like-for-like.

“I think, what you’re saying, it’s a bit like van Nistelrooy. Some games they play, they’re not in the game. Salah, a lot of the time you watch him, even in that spell, all of a sudden, he goes bang-bang, two goals. Ain’t touched the ball, but then gets his two goals. That’s the hardest thing to do.

“Because they don’t sometimes do as much as somebody else who’s got skill or energies in the game which can affect it in other ways. But the actual hardest thing to do still is put the ball in the back of the net.”

When asked for his selection, Ferdinand added:

“You want both. That’s why I can’t understand Liverpool selling him, because they both score goals – one a bit more,” he said.

“I would probably lean with Salah because of that reason, goals. I’m going Salah.”

Ferdinand says he would pick Salah over Mane

As good as Mane was for Liverpool, during his last 18 months at the club, he was nowhere near the level he was at previously.

As the Reds have seriously struggled this season, fans of other clubs have attributed this to the 30-year-old’s departure – as he left last summer.

However, this isn’t the case at all, as the Merseyside outfit’s problems are far more widespread than one attacker leaving.

Ever since Salah arrived at Anfield in a deal worth £34m, he has been the side’s top scorer in the Premier League every single year (joint with Mane in 2018/19).

The Egyptian has been absolutely crucial to Liverpool’s success, as has Mane, but his highs have been incredible in a Reds shirt. Therefore, this is certainly a tough call to make.
