Liverpool scouts were so impressed by Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio that they might make a move for him this summer.
That’s according to newspaper Correio da Manha, who claim the Reds sent a scout to watch the player in action last weekend against Porto.
Having impressed the club official, it is said that the Merseyside outfit could look to make a bid for the 21-year-old at the end of the season.
As it stands, Sporting are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League – leaving them a significant hole in their budget.
Consequently, the Portuguese club will need to sort this by selling an important player, and it is believed that Inacio could be the man they look to part ways with.
The centre-back currently has a £40m release clause.
Liverpool could bid for Inacio
A trait quite hard to find in a centre-back, Inacio is left-footed.
While Virgil van Dijk currently plays on the left side for the Reds, he is 31 years old.
This means that Liverpool need to start thinking about his future replacement, alluding to the possibility of bringing the U21 Portugal international to Anfield.
As a youngster, Inacio could create a very strong partnership with Ibrahima Konate – who is 23 years old.
While a starter won’t be needed anytime soon with Van Dijk’s incredible ability, it must be considered at some point in the future.
Therefore, having seriously impressed with Sporting, Inacio could be a brilliant long-term prospect for Jurgen Klopp to bring in.
