Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic has shared what left him surprised during the Merseyside derby last night.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, as posted by Football Daily, the 18-year-old claimed how surprised he was by how comfortable he felt playing in a different position in midfield tonight.
“Yeah, to be fair, it was a different position and I thought it would be less comfortable, but it was good and I enjoyed it a lot,” Bajcetic said.
With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho back in the team, the Spaniard was tasked with playing further forward tonight.
Fabinho returned to his usual role as Liverpool’s number six, while Bajcetic was utilised as more of a number eight – a position he was yet to start in for the first-team this season.
Bajcetic said he felt comfortable against Everton
As an 18-year-old who has only broken into the senior squad this season, Bajcetic was absolutely phenomenal in the middle of the park against Everton.
Right from the off, he looked calm and composed on the ball, also willing to put in strong challenges against the Toffees’ physical midfield.
At no stage did he look like he was playing out of position; he actually looked like he had been playing as a number eight his whole life.
Incredibly, the Reds initially signed Bajcetic as a centre-back, where he arrived at Anfield as a natural defender in December 2020.
However, the teenager was more than capable playing further forward last night against Everton.
Therefore, if Jurgen Klopp does decide to bring Fabinho back into the holding position, Bajcetic has a big case to start elsewhere in Liverpool’s midfield three. He is almost undroppable at this point.
