Jose Enrique tells Liverpool they must keep Stefan Bajcetic at the club now

Former Reds player Jose Enrique has claimed Liverpool must keep Stefan Bajcetic at the club, rather than sending him out on loan.

The former defender previously claimed the 18-year-old may benefit from a temporary move elsewhere to gain consistent experience at the first-team level.

However, having hailed the midfielder for his Man of the Match performance against Everton last night, the Spaniard’s previous suggestion was questioned by fans.

As a result, Enrique took to Twitter to share his thoughts on what the Merseyside outfit should with the teenage sensation.

“I said that the best [option] for him was to go out on loan and play,” he wrote.

“But if the kid plays like tonight consistently, then 100% he has to stay with us.”

Enrique says Bajcetic needs to stay at Liverpool

After the youngster’s performance in the Merseyside derby last night, this isn’t even a question worth asking.

Starting alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the middle of the park, Bajcetic’s display was equally as mature as anyone else’s.

Having been used by Jurgen Klopp as a number six this term, the 18-year-old was tasked with playing further forward as a number eight.

Despite the huge pressure surrounding the match, Bajcetic looked calm and composed. His performance suggested he had been playing as a number eight all his life, rather than it being the first time in his professional career.

Arriving from Celta Vigo in December 2020, the Spaniard was actually a centre-back when he signed.

Liverpool thought he would be well suited as a defensive midfielder, and now Klopp even considers him an option going forward.

Lauded by pundit Jamie Carragher as ‘outstanding’ last night, the future is certainly bright for Bajcetic at Anfield.
