Liverpool could turn to Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti if Jurgen Klopp decides to leave the club early.
That’s according to CalcioMercatoWeb, who claim that the Reds have a ‘concrete interest’ in the 63-year-old.
The Italian is out of contract at the end of the season, but he is likely to extend given his side’s brilliance this term.
Although it is expected that Fenway Sports Group will continue to back Klopp through thick and thin, it is suggested that if they did decide to put an end to the German’s reign, they would turn to Spalletti as his replacement.
The Liverpool manager remains under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2026.
Spalletti could replace Klopp at Liverpool
Going off Napoli’s success this season, this would be a brilliant appointment for the Merseyside outfit.
After just 22 matches played, the Naples club lead the Serie A table by a staggering 16 points. They have won 19, drawn two and have lost just once.
Thus, it already seems like they’ve won the Scudetto. Incredibly, this will be the first time since the 1989/90 season, during the golden days of Diego Maradona.
The Italian giants have faced Liverpool twice this season in the Champions League.
The first clash saw Napoli absolutely dominate at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where Spalletti’s side cruised to a 4-1 victory.
The Reds were much better for the return leg, where two late goals from Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez saw both teams progress through to the round of 16.
Spalletti is expected to extend his stay at Napoli beyond the summer, but going forward, he could be an exceptional replacement for Klopp. However, he’s unlikely to go anywhere before his contract expires.
