Mohamed Salah has named Stefan Bajcetic as Liverpool’s best player during their recent poor form.
The Reds got back to winning ways tonight, with both Bajcetic and Salah starring in the 2-0 win over Everton. The Egyptian may have got on the scoresheet, but it was his teenaged teammate who stole the show, winning the Man of the Match award.
And asked about another excellent display from Bajcetic by Sky Sports after the game, Salah had high praise for the youngster.
“He’s a great player, a great person, he always tried to work hard and I think since he started to play with us he’s been our best player maybe, hopefully he stays with that confidence!” raved Mo.
A star is born at Anfield
Whisper it quietly, but Liverpool may just have a star in their midst. Stefan Bajcetic has been absolutely exceptional over the last half-dozen games.
With the Reds midfield under scrutiny, Jurgen Klopp could have found the perfect answer from within the academy.
What a piece of business it’s now looking sneaking him into the club just before new Brexit rules hit hard. Continue at this trajectory, and he’ll save Liverpool millions upon millions this summer.
Had Klopp have dipped into the window last year, it’s unlikely we’d now be looking at Bajcetic as a first team starter. It’s funny how these things work out.
Addressing Salah’s point, it’s impossible to disagree. With others floundering horrendously around him, Bajcetic has been a picture of cool.
Winning tackles relentlessly and using the ball cleverly, his potential is staggering. Tonight at Anfield he gave a derby day performance for the ages.
Of course, it’s important not to place too much pressure on him. But with half a season to go, he’s now battled his way into Klopp’s best XI.
There’s plenty of football still to be played though, and the 18-year-old will have to be protected at some point. For now though, just let the boy play. Overawed by nothing, he’s got an enormous future. Let’s hope that’s at Liverpool.
