Liverpool are ‘well informed’ over Barcelona forward Ansu Fati’s transfer situation.
In a slightly surprising update, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Fati could be on the market this summer. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert confirmed that Liverpool are one of the sides to have already made contact with Fati’s agent.
“Keep an eye on the situation of Ansu Fati for the summer. For now, Barcelona are still protecting him. The second part of the season will be crucial to understand if Ansu Fati will continue at Barca or try a different opportunity around Europe in the summer,” Romano explained.
“I can confirm that English clubs had conversations with the agent of Ansu Fati asking for potential conditions of the deal. Clubs like Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool were informed around the general situation of Ansu Fati.”
However, it seems as though any interest is still at the very early stages. Romano claims that no club have seen fit to begin negotiations with Barcelona just yet.
“They never made any official bid or any negotiations with Barca, but they are well informed on the Ansu Fati situation,” he said. “So, let’s keep an eye on this one for the summer, depending on Barcelona. At the moment as Laporta said they don’t want to sell him, they still love him as a Barca player, but it will depend on the second part of the season.”
Fati faces uncertain future at Barcelona
Fati’s sitaution at Barcelona is a really strange one. For such a long time, the 20-year-old has been seen as a potentially prodigious talent.
He was handed the No.10 shirt upon Lionel Messi’s move to PSG in 2021 and was named the best young talent on the planet in Goal’s NXGN series of the same year.
So why then are Barca in danger of him moving on? Well, as is often the case when a player becomes disgruntled, Fati simply doesn’t seem to be playing enough.
He’s been a key part of Xavi’s squad this season, playing 20 La Liga games. But he’s only started seven of those. Although he’s still very young, it perhaps isn’t enough for a player Samuel Eto’o once called ‘amazing.‘
Then there’s Barcelona’s well publicised financial situation, too. With Fati on a long contract until 2028, his wages could be an attractive sum to get off the books for the Catalans.
Liverpool are currently well stocked in the Spain international’s favoured wide position. Nevertheless, you can see why they’d be interested in Fati. If the price was right, he’d make an excellent signing.
