Liverpool transfers: Reds make enquiry over summer move for Moises Caicedo

Liverpool have been in touch with Brighton over a summer move for midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo had looked to be on the verge of a leaving the Seagulls in January, having been subject to strong interest from Arsenal. Although he ended up staying put then, it seems inevitable that Caicedo won’t be at Brighton too much longer.

With that in mind, The Daily Mail report that Liverpool have ‘asked about’ the 21-year-old as part of their midfield rebuild.

It’s claimed that the Reds’ ‘transfer objective’ remains to bring in both Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes this summer. Caicedo is mentioned as a third option in the plan.

Arthur back for Liverpool, but new faces needed

The bulk of The Mail’s report here is made up of news to do with another Liverpool midfield hopeful – Arthur Melo.

On that front, there is good news. It’s reported that the 26-year-old has finally returned to full training ahead of Monday’s Merseyside Derby.

Although it’s highly unlikely that Arthur will play any part in the game, he’s reportedly ‘determined’ to help Liverpool turn their season around.

To that end, the Brazilian is said to remain ‘upbeat’ about his time at the club. Despite his chances of earning a permanent move to Anfield being non-existent, Arthur could still be useful this season.

Liverpool had perhaps hoped that the former Barcelona man could become a long-term option. It’s unlikely they’d have included a relatively well-priced buy option in his loan deal if they didn’t.

But obviously things haven’t progressed in the way everyone had hoped.

As a result, Liverpool need to turn to new faces. Bellingham and Nunes appear to be the front-runners to fill these roles, but should Jurgen Klopp land them both, he may need a third anyway. With good Premier League experience and huge potential ahead of him, Caciedo should be that man.

Jamie Redknapp recently called him ‘magnificent’ for his displays this season. He’s shown exactly what he could bring to the table. It’s of course one thing ‘asking’ about a signing and another entering negotiations for one, though. But Caicedo did hand in a transfer request last month. If Liverpool follow up their interest with something more concrete, the player would surely be receptive.
