Liverpool transfers: Todd Boehly could sanction Mason Mount sale

Liverpool could have been given some encouragement in their pursuit of Chelsea’s Mason Mount, with Todd Boehly open to a sale.

The Reds are reportedly keeping an eye on Mount’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge ahead of a summer move. And now, as per The Evening Standard, Boehly could be ‘inclined’ to cash in on the 24-year-old.

The Chelsea owner is said to be handling Mount’s contract talks himself. However, with just 18 months remaining on his deal, there’s reportedly been ‘little progress’ so far.

As a result, Liverpool are claimed to be ready to ‘test Chelsea’s resolve’ over their academy star. Reportedly on around £70k-a-week at his boyhood club, Mount is said to be looking for a salary in line with some of his England teammates. The Standard report that the Blues are ‘yet to offer’ these terms, potentially opening the door for Liverpool.

Mount likely to be on the market

As the weeks tick by, it’s starting to look more and more likely that Mount will end up on the market this summer.

Of course, that could all change in a second. But right now, all the signs seem to indicate that the midfielder and his club are some way apart in their negotiations.

Given the huge amounts of money being spent by Chelsea, you’d think they’d need to balance the books somewhere.

Although he hasn’t been great this season, Mount is still one of their biggest assets. In light of his difficult contract situation, perhaps Boehly will feel cashing in is the best option.

Should that come to pass, Liverpool appear to be the front-runners. That would make sense, too. He may not be Jude Bellingham, but he’s still a very good player with plenty of experience.

Over the course of his career, Mount has earned plenty of accolades from coaches, teammates and pundits alike.

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy even told TalkSPORT that he’d pick the Portsmouth born player over Neymar for England – because “Neymar won’t do what Mount does, he won’t do the dirty work.”

We’d probably rather have Neymar, to be honest. But for what Liverpool need right now, Mount will do just fine. Keep your eyes peeled for this one.
