Liverpool have congratulated minority shareholder LeBron James on smashing the NBA scoring record last night.
As per CBS Sports, James beat Kareem Abdul-Jabbarâs 39-year record during LA Lakers match against Oklahoma City Thunder last night.
The 39-year-old has now amassed a staggering 38,388 points throughout his career. Fittingly, James was actually born in the same year the previous record was set. Now it belongs to him.
Following the news, Liverpool took to their official Twitter account to hail LeBronâs achievement.
âCongratulations on becoming the NBAâs all-time leading scorer, @KingJames. A truly incredible achievement,â wrote the club.
A fitting tribute from one great sporting institution to another. With James such a recognised and celebrated star across the world, itâs great to have him connected with LFC. Congratulations, LeBron on an amazing career. More to come!
Liverpool set to release LeBron range
On the day that James made history in the NBA, Liverpool also released a preview of his upcoming clothing collection for the club.
As seen on the liverpoolfc.com online store, the Reds have shared new images of the basketball starâs new range.
For now, it looks as though LeBron is set to release two Liverpool inspired items â a shirt and a basketball vest.
The shirt has a distinctly baseball type feel to it. Black with red pinstripes and a âYNWAâ pattern in the fabric, it certainly wonât appeal to traditionalists. The deep red vest has the same pattern adorning the front in white.
Traditionalists arenât really who this is for, though. And given Jamesâ new record, the timing of the release seems perfect. Hopefully it can be another step to realising the potential of Liverpoolâs collaboration with Nike.
With no release date just yet, merely a âcoming soon,â Reds fans will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on these. For any basketball lovers among the fan base, theyâre going to be must.
