Roma have identified Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita as the perfect signing for manager Jose Mourinho.
Keita looks all set to leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer. And as per asromalive.it, Mourinho’s Conference League champions are keen to sign him up.
They claim that the 27-year-old is ready to leave Liverpool, with his relationship with Jurgen Klopp said to be ‘not the best.’
With a high wage, the deal will reportedly be ‘complex’ for Roma. But, desperate to keep Mourinho interested, Keita is claimed to be the perfect profile to do just that.
Keita nearing Anfield exit
By this point, Liverpool fans should resign themselves to losing Keita this summer. Not that that will be especially hard for a lot of them.
The Guinean has unfortunately never fully convinced at Anfield. Bought amid much fanfare and exceptional promise, Keita’s injury problems have led to him regularly becoming a scapegoat.
Even this season, he’s barely been on the pitch and he’s still blamed for Liverpool’s struggles.
In a way, that’s kind of fair enough. Had Naby been the player Klopp thought he was getting from RB Leipzig, perhaps Liverpool wouldn’t now be scrabbling around for a midfielder.
Although obviously not his fault, Keita’s injuries have become the defining part of his time on Merseyside. That he isn’t in the side feels less like luck and more like a pattern of failings on his – or the medical team’s – part.
Anyway, what’s done is done. There’s no point wondering ‘what if.’ When the curtain comes down on his Liverpool career, it should still be remembered that Keita contributed to a hugely successful period for the club.
No, he didn’t contribute anywhere near as much as hoped, but he still had his moments. On his day he could be ‘incredible.’
There will be frustration if he heads off to Roma, or elsewhere, and displays the consistency we never saw at Liverpool. At the same time though, it would be great to see him finally realise his potential, even if not at Anfield. A parting is now looking inevitable. Perhaps Mourinho can do what Klopp could never manage, and get Keita firing regularly. We shall see.
