Garth Crooks left shocked after watching three Liverpool players this weekend

Pundit Garth Crooks was really shocked by the performance of three Liverpool players against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Writing for his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport, the commentator shared his thoughts on the Reds’ display, bewildered by how far the club have fallen.

“What on earth has happened to Joe Gomez, Thiago and Naby Keita?” Crooks said.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson’s recent lack of form is also most worrying, while forwards Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah hardly had a kick.

“I’m beginning to think Nunez is suffering from stage fright. Clubs don’t come much bigger than Liverpool and the pressure can be enormous.

“Nunez is really struggling in front of goal.”

Crooks concerned by Liverpool trio

Crooks rightly pointed out the huge drop-off in form demonstrated by Gomez, Thiago and Keita.

However, while the two midfielders were well below par on Saturday, it was the defence who looked a shadow of themselves against Wolves.

Once again, Gomez was poor at centre-back. At this point in time, it remains uncertain what the defender is destined for at Anfield.

Having made 168 appearances for the Reds, the 25-year-old can sometimes look like a world-beater, whilst on other occasions he seems out of his depth.

If the former England international can become consistent for Liverpool, he deserves to stay at the club.

Joel Matip is another example of looking like a different player this season.

The 31-year-old has seen one of the biggest drop-offs in form, and he frankly doesn’t look up to the job at the moment.

This is a major problem for the Reds, with both Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate out injured.

With such form on show, this could mean Jurgen Klopp has a big decision to make regarding the defenders’ futures in the summer.
