Darwin Nunez hails Liverpool player as 'fundamental', wants him back in the team

Darwin Nunez gave his thoughts on Liverpool teammate Luis Díaz this week. The Uruguayan wants him back in the side.

Darwin Nunez gave an interview to Premier League Productions this week where he talked about the state of Liverpool. The Reds, after all, aren’t having a very good season.

Nunez believes things can turn around, however, and that returning players will have a huge effect on that. One player, in particular, must come back into the team when ready.

“We have been on a bad run, it’s not a great time for us at the moment,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “Lots of players are injured too, Luis Díaz for example.

“He’s a fundamental player for us, so important in the position he plays in. Hopefully, they’ll be back soon and together we can end this bad run.”

Luis Díaz at Liverpool

The impact Díaz made a year ago was extraordinary. He lept into this Liverpool side and immediately looked at home, providing exactly what Jurgen Klopp wanted from a forward.

The fact Díaz forced his way into the Champions League final XI in just a few months sums it up. He’s an ideal Liverpool forward.

But his injuries this season have halted his rise. Díaz hasn’t played for months now and may not return until March. That’s an enormous shame for, as Nunez says, the Colombian is a vital player.

Data shows how he’s one of the most effective players in the Premier League at creating goals. It’s worth mentioning that Roberto Firmino is, too, and Liverpool can’t call on either of them right now.

The Reds would definitely look better with both forwards back – and you can throw Diogo Jota into that, too. The goals, creativity and intensity from all three is fantastic and sorely missing right now.

Above all, though, we’d love to see what Díaz and Nunez can produce at Liverpool with more time together. They’re the future of this attack – and it remains a very exciting one.
