TalkSPORT’s Darren Bent expects Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to be in bits today. The Reds aren’t likely to make any moves.
It’s transfer deadline day but no one should expect Liverpool to do anything. Jurgen Klopp made that clear after the defeat to Brighton on Sunday – the Reds are done for the month.
Darren Bent, however, doesn’t believe that will sit right with the boss. Klopp will be watching comings and goings today and wonder exactly what’s going on – Liverpool need investment, too.
“If you’re Jurgen Klopp and you’re sitting there watching Chelsea do what they’re doing, what they’re about to do again – £105m – your head’s falling off,” said Bent on TalkSPORT. “Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers ever – or one of Liverpool’s best ever.

“One of his rivals are just ridiculously spending money, left, right and centre. He’s gone toe-to-toe with Manchester City, they spend money all the time. Even Arsenal are putting their hand in their pocket. Newcastle’s investment [too].
“And then he’s looking at it and going he needs bodies.”
Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
It’s hard to disagree with Bent, to be honest. Liverpool went into this season with midfield issues and attempted to correct them with Arthur Melo at the summer transfer deadline. He’s had no effect thanks to injury, meaning the Reds still had glaring midfield issues going into this window.
And yet, they’ll let it pass by without addressing them. At all. That looks completely mad from the outside.
The reason for it is Jude Bellingham. Liverpool are prioritising the 19-year-old above all and won’t make any major transfers that put that deal at risk. But as the Reds move towards a midtable season, that plan looks near-insane.

What happens if Liverpool don’t sign Bellingham? Is there even an alternative at this point? Chelsea appear likely to sign Enzo Fernández and the Guardian claims they could move for Moisés Caicedo today.
When put up against that kind of spending, Liverpool look like they’re trying to play a different game.
