Liverpool like Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to reports. The player could be on the move today.

This comes from the Daily Mail. They claim that Liverpool like the look of Conor Gallagher, who could well leave Chelsea today.

The Blues are hoping to sign Enzo Fernández from Benfica for a British record fee. There’s also talk from the Guardian that they’ll push for Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo today, too.

That’s an awful lot of money – pushing £200m. Chelsea can recoup some money by selling Gallagher, who now feels almost redundant in their team.

Everton were linked with a move yesterday. They bid £45m, says the Mail, but Gallagher isn’t interested in going there. He’d want to join a ‘top six’ side, they say.

Liverpool could give him that opportunity if they’re willing to front the cash.

Gallagher is hardly the exciting signing that fans hope for. He would be, after all, a Chelsea cast-off.

But it’s worth remembering that Chelsea cast-offs typically go on to do well. Liverpool have one on their right-wing, while Daniel Sturridge was a sensational pickup from Stamford Bridge. Manchester City are pretty happy with Kevin De Bruyne, too.

This wouldn’t be the first time, then, that Chelsea signed a bunch of players that forced out their current options, only for those options to shine at a new club. Gallagher is a great fit for Liverpool’s squad as a high-energy midfielder who can make things happen in and around the box.

It got him into the England squad this season, with Chelsea manager Graham Potter calling him ‘fantastic’. Gallagher is a good player who would help rejuvenate the Reds’ midfield.

Would he be perfect and solve all of their problems? Of course not. But Gallagher would add qualities that Liverpool are crying out for. Add in that he’s still only 22 and Jurgen Klopp could work wonders with him. We think it could be a smart signing for the rest of the season.
