Arsenal’s potential deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo is completely off, after claims Liverpool want to sign him.

That’s according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners reportedly had their second bid, worth a staggering £70m, rejected by the Seagulls.

The south-coast club are adamant the 21-year-old will not be leaving the Amex this month, no matter the transfer fee offered.

Romano has now confirmed that Arsenal have accepted Brighton’s wish, and that no further talks will take place before the transfer window closes later tonight.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool joined Mikel Arteta’s side, as well as Chelsea, in the race to land the Ecuador international.

However, with the player staying put for the remainder of the season, this opens up the possibility of a transfer in the summer.

Caicedo to Arsenal completely off

Whilst recent reports had suggested the Gunners had pulled away and were the club most likely to sign Caicedo, the closure of the January window may just reset this situation ahead of the summer.

It has been claimed Brighton’s asking price for the youngster is set to drop from their initial valuation, being £75m, at the end of the season.

Presumably, this is because they will have more time to explore their options in the market, before signing a suitable replacement.

Although this will be a hard task given Caicedo is a ‘magnificent’ player, the Seagulls have the best scouting department in the Premier League.

Therefore, with a reduced transfer fee, Liverpool may re-enter negotiations to sign the midfielder.

This position needs reinforcing at Anfield, and there are few players who suit the profile better than Caicedo.
