Liverpool told they could move to sign 27-year-old from Bayern Munich

Liverpool have been urged to look into a move for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich this summer.

Kimmich is one of the most important players at Bayern, racking up over 300 appearances for them before his twenty-eighth birthday. But that hasn’t stopped Tony Cascarino from suggesting Liverpool should try to poach him.

Writing for The Times, the pundit claimed that Kimmich could cover midfield and right-back for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“If they wanted a versatile option [in midfield], they could go for Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich, who can play at right back too,” wrote Cascarino, who’s a Liverpool fan.

The former striker also suggested that Klopp should be in the market for a centre-back this summer. And if it were up to Cascarino, that would be a player in the mould of Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger.

“They also need another experienced, vocal centre back, in the mould of Antonio Rudiger, who can get more from Van Dijk,” he said.

No chance for Liverpool Kimmich move

The second suggestion – that Liverpool need a centre-back – is a fair point from Cascarino. Whether or not Klopp agrees this summer remains to be seen.

But to suggest a move for Kimmich? It just doesn’t seem feasible at all.

The 27-year-old would no doubt be a really good option. His versatility is something that would make him invaluable in any squad. With Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling for form, it’d be great to have the option to rotate him for another world-class player.

It simply isn’t going to happen, though. Although Kimmich has courted some controversy during his time at Bayern, he’s just too valuable to Julian Nagelsmann.

The German international also has three years to run on his contract. If Bayern were to somehow agree to letting Kimmich go, he would cost an absolute bomb. It isn’t in Liverpool’s playbook to spend so heavily on someone of his age.

So, we can safely put this one in the ‘never going to happen’ file. It’ll find a home right next to Cascarino’s suggestion that Liverpool could target Kalvin Phillips this summer.
