Galatasaray are leading the last-minute battle to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, according to The Athletic.

The 25-year-old has long been touted with a permanent move away from Anfield, and it now appears there’s a possibility this may happen before the transfer window shuts tomorrow night.

Although there has been interest in the centre-back from a number of Bundesliga clubs, it is reported the Turkish Super League leaders are the frontrunners to secure the signing.

Phillips is said to be open to the move to Istanbul, and talks are ongoing.

At the moment, three possible options are being explored; a loan until the end of the season, a loan with an option to buy this summer and a permanent transfer.

It is believed Liverpool value Phillips at around the £10m mark.

Thus far this season, the defender has played seven matches for Liverpool.

Operating as Jurgen Klopp’s fifth-choice option, various injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have meant the former Bolton player has had to step up when needed.

Reliable as always, the Reds have never been let down by the 25-year-old, who has now made 29 first-team appearances for the club.

However, having impressed for the Merseyside outfit on a number of occasions, the centre-back has long been mooted for a permanent move away from Anfield.

Even last summer, Phillips came very close to leaving the club before Klopp pulled the plug on a move.

However, it now appears to be a likely possibility.

Liverpool recently recalled defender Rhys Williams from his loan spell at Blackpool. With no other reason to do so, this suggests the fan-favourite is set to leave before the transfer deadline tomorrow night.
