Liverpool transfer news: ‘Full focus’ now on ‘unbelievable’ player – journalist

Liverpool now have their ‘full focus’ on Jude Bellingham, according to one journalist. It comes after Jurgen Klopp’s disappointing update.

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Liverpool’s transfer business after their 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday. It wasn’t one that fans particularly want to hear, however.

“No, nothing will happen in this transfer window,” he told beIN sports. “That’s all. It’s all good.”

So it seems that Liverpool will stick with this squad for the rest of the season. That would mean Cody Gakpo was their only addition of the month – and he’s one that hasn’t quite hit the ground running at Anfield.

Doubling down on that update is a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. He claims that Liverpool have now ruled out further January signings and will put all of their attention on Jude Bellingham.

“As reported and now confirmed via Klopp: ‘Nothing will happen in this transfer window’,” he wrote on Twitter. “Gakpo in January. Now full focus on top target Bellingham for summer!”

Jude Bellingham to Liverpool

On the one hand, it’s a sign of just how seriously Liverpool are taking Bellingham – a player considered ‘unbelievable’ right now. There are a couple of days left in this transfer window but they’re already shifting their focus to their no.1 summer target.

But we won’t pretend that this is anything other than disappointing. Sunday once again showed just how vulnerable this squad is and just how desperately Liverpool need a new midfielder.

There won’t be one arriving before the summer, however. No Bellingham, no Enzo Fernández, no Moisés Caicedo, no Sofyan Amrabat and no Sander Berge.

It makes you wonder what the goal for this season actually is. As things stand, Liverpool have next to no hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season, while getting past Real Madrid in this year’s edition feels unlikely to say the least.

Is it a case of giving up on this campaign and focusing on a summer rebuild? It certainly feels like it.
