Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott is now chasing a record set at the club by former Red Raheem Sterling.

According to OptaJoe, the 19-year-old is the highest scoring teenager at any Premier League club this season, having bagged five goals in all competitions.

The last teenager to score more for the Merseyside outfit was Sterling, who has since played for Manchester City and Chelsea.

The England international managed to score ten times during the 2013/14 season, meaning Elliott has 19 league games and the Champions League left to grab another six goals.

The former Fulham academy talent brought his tally up to five with Liverpool’s only goal of the match today as they dipped out to Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

As previously demonstrated at both Liverpool and Fulham, Elliott is more naturally suited to playing in an attacking role.

With Jurgen Klopp’s issues in the midfield this season, the U21 England international has been told to fill-in in the middle of the park.

Whilst he has been able to use his creative abilities to play clever through-balls in behind the opposition defence, it’s clear the youngster isn’t physically suited to playing as a number eight.

Elliott’s main issue is his lack of size and strength. Combined with improvements needed in his speed, he isn’t always capable of competing with ball-winning players in the middle third.

He sometimes gets pushed off the ball too easily, or he isn’t strong enough in the tackle.

Instead, a performance on the left wing against Brighton today continued to demonstrate why he should be utilised further forward.

Elliott is very creative and he has great vision, which allows him to link up with the rest of the attack almost seamlessly.

Having now added goals to his game, there’s no reason the 19-year-old cannot be used in Liverpool’s front-line.
