Liverpool will have to pay at least £55m to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolves this summer.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Chelsea have now joined Liverpool in the race for the Portugal international.
It’s reported that the Reds were ‘close’ to buying Nunes from Sporting Lisbon last summer. But the 24-year-old joined Wolves for £44m instead.
Now, with what will be a full season under his belt in the Premier League, it’s claimed that Nunes will cost ‘at least’ £55m.

Liverpool made to pay for transfer mistake
This saga just gets ever more frustrating. Why oh why didn’t Liverpool snap Nunes up last summer.
They desperately needed him, he was available at a decent price and there were no ‘big six’ rivals circling him. He would have suited them too, he’s ‘special.’
Now, with trigger-happy Chelsea added into the equation, his valuation is only going to go up. So, whereas at one time he looked destined to become a Liverpool player, Nunes could now be sold to the highest bidder, which will inevitably not be the Reds.
All of this could so easily have been avoided. Perhaps we’ll never know the true reason as to why Nunes didn’t end up at Anfield prior to this season.

Just like Nabil Fekir’s failed move, it could go down in history as one of those strange transfer episodes.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be written off just yet. But £55m does sound like the kind of price Liverpool won’t be all that keen to stretch too.
They tend to do business more inside the £35m-£45m bracket. Only four times in their history have they gone over £50m.
The market is changing, though. £50m today is not equivalent to, say, £50m for Fernando Torres in 2012. But still, Liverpool may feel this doesn’t represent value for money. They may be right. Last year though, when Nunes joined Wolves, the value was surely there for all to see.
