Jamie Carragher weighed in on Liverpool target Jude Bellingham this week. He feels the player will end up at Real Madrid.
Jude Bellingham is a hot topic in football right now. The 19-year-old will almost certainly change clubs this summer for a massive fee. Florian Plettenberg says the absolute minimum would be £88m – a record fee for a club like Liverpool.
And Plettenberg believes Liverpool are one of the absolute favourites to sign Bellingham. They’re not alone in that, though, with him telling Sky Sports that Manchester City and Real Madrid are firmly in that race.
Now Jamie Carragher has given his thoughts on that. He believes Bellingham should wait before joining Real, feeling that it’s somewhere to go in your prime.
“It’s very ruthless over there in terms of the competition to play and the superstars they buy,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “If I was Jude Bellingham, if you go to Real Madrid now, where do you go from Real Madrid?
“It almost feels like if you were leaving Real Madrid, you were taking a step down in some ways. For me, I think he should sign for an English club on a five or six-year year deal and then go to Real Madrid.
“I actually think Erling Haaland has already got this mapped out in his own head in terms of him going to Manchester City. I think he already knows how long he is going to be there – I think there will be a deal done where he eventually ends up at Real Madrid.”
Jude Bellingham to Liverpool
It is certainly an advantage that Bellingham has. He could sign a five-year contract with a club this summer and still move somewhere else for what will essentially be his entire prime years.
And perhaps that suits Liverpool. By all accounts, the Reds’ proposal is almost entirely based on their ability to grow him as a player. That might be exactly what he’s after, given the ability to move elsewhere if he wishes down the line.
So Carragher might be onto something here. Even if Bellingham holds that Real Madrid dream, it’s not one he necessarily has to chase immediately.
