A fourth Liverpool player missed training on Wednesday, according to reports. The Reds had a 19-year-old take his place.

This comes from the Mirror. They say Adrian missed training on Wednesday as Liverpool continued their weekend preparations.

He wasn’t the only one, either. Nat Phillips, Fabio Carvalho and James Milner were all absent from team training with no explanation as to why.

Liverpool weren’t short on goalkeepers, however. Jakub Ojrzynski stepped into Adrian’s place, having recently returned from a loan spell with Radomiak Radom.

The Reds, though, continue to see absences.

Another Liverpool player misses training

We imagine there are a mix of reasons for these players. Milner, for instance, could have a slight knock or perhaps someone like Adrian was doing individual gym work. Until Liverpool give reasons, we can only speculate.

Phillips, though, likely missed training because of an impending transfer. All reports suggest he’s on his way before teh transfer window closes – although, we’re yet to see a suggestion for where.

Liverpool won’t want to risk any injuries scuppering a deal. Leaving him out for now while presumed negotiations continue makes complete sense – we might not see Phillips in training again.

Carvalho is a particularly interesting absence. Again, it could be that he was training elsewhere or has an injury. After all, every Liverpool player must pick up an injury this season. It’s how football now works.

There is an outside chance that he departs on loan, though. Carvalho hasn’t been able to hold down a proper place in Liverpool’s first-team, often disappearing from the pitch for weeks at a time.

Part of that is because Carvalho is a proper no.10 – a role Liverpool don’t actually use. He hasn’t quite adapted to either midfield or the left-wing as hoped, either. A loan deal could be ideal, though we stress it hasn’t been reported anywhere.
