Young Liverpool goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski left the first team squad chuckling before training yesterday.

As seen on LFCTV’s Inside Training video, the young ‘keeper led the squad’s birthday singing for assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

Singing in his native Polish, the 19-year-old appeared to mistake Lijnders for goalkeeping coach John Actherberg, directing his wishes towards ‘Achto.’ Having realised his error, Ojrzynski let out a loud ‘Pepito!” towards Lijnders.

This was much to the delight of the assembled Liverpool players, who roared with laughter in unison. A nice way for the youngster to start off the session.

Liverpool not having much luck in Poland

Ojrzynski has recently been recalled to Liverpool having been back in Poland on-loan in the first half of the season.

The teenager only managed three league appearances for Radomiak Radom though, before returning to base.

That’s slightly disappointing. Having brought Ojrzynski in from Legia Warsaw as a 17-year-old, Liverpool might have hoped for a little more progression in the intervening two-and-a-half years.

But with all due respect, failing to make an impact in the Polish Ekstraklasa doesn’t bode well for his chances at Anfield.

Whatever becomes of Ojrzynski’s Liverpool career though, he’ll always have these moments training with the game’s elite.

And whatever becomes of him, it perhaps won’t stop the Reds shopping in the Polish market.

Liverpool famously had Poland international Jerzy Dudek in net for the Champions League win in 2005. Since then, the Reds have had three more ‘keepers from the country. Ojrzynski followed in the footsteps of Kamil Grabara, with current academy stopper Fabian Mrozek joining just after.

With Mateusz Musialowski also in the academy, it seems to be a well Liverpool like to drink from. None of that quartet have made a senior appearance for Liverpool, though. Either way, it won’t be the last time the Reds squad hear a rendition of ‘Sto lat.’ We expect to see you singing along next time, lads!
