What staff at the AXA Training Centre are now saying about Mohamed Salah’s poor form for Liverpool

Staff at Liverpool insist that Mohamed Salah has not ‘eased off’ since signing his new contract last summer.

Salah has been well below-par in the Premier League this season, scoring just seven times in 19 games. But according to The Athletic, those at the AXA Training Centre aren’t concerned by his lack of goals.

Instead, they reportedly see a player who continues to ‘sets the standards’ in training every single day.

After signing a contract to make him the best paid player in Liverpool history, there have been some suggestions that Salah has become complacent. But these are said to have been completely dismissed by those working with him day in day out.

Salah struggling to get going

So, Liverpool insiders don’t see any change in the hunger and desire from the Reds’ Egyptian King. That’s good. But it doesn’t alter the fact that Mo is struggling this season.

In fairness to the 30-year-old, he’s far from alone in that at Anfield. Top players like Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho have been sucked in by the mess that has been Liverpool’s 2022/23 campaign.

Salah has also been pretty exceptional in the Champions League. His seven goals in the six Group Stage matches put him as joint top-scorer in the competition. So, he’s obviously still doing something right.

But in times of such trouble for the team, you need your top, top players to stand up. The same is true for any team on the planet, at any level.

When things get tough, you’re in your rights to be reliant on those with the heaviest pay-packets to drag you out of the mire.

So, yes, Mo isn’t alone in dropping off badly this season. But Liverpool and their fans do have reason to expect a lot more from him amidst the wreckage. If he’s still the player that he’s shown over the years that he is, then Salah will step up and start delivering soon.

Should he continue to wilt away, then perhaps the Reds need to think about where they go next. He’s far from an old man at thirty, but he has an awful lot of football in his legs the last half-decade. So, maybe the desire hasn’t dropped off, but the physicality is starting to.

Whatever it is, we need to see more. Salah has come up with the goods so often since his arrival in 2017. We need you again now, Mo.
