Mohamed Salah left Caoimhín Kelleher with his head in his hands after scoring a brilliant volley in Liverpool training. The Egptian looks sharp.
Liverpool’s players underwent training on Wednesday in frigid conditions. That doesn’t mean spirits weren’t up, though, and post-session shooting drill was certainly impressive.
The Reds’ Twitter account uploaded footage from the drill. Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott and Trent Alexander-Arnold each faced crosses to the edge of the box. The idea was simple – control it and fire an effort at goal.
There were some impressive strikes from the trio, too. Alexander-Arnold clearly enjoyed one of his as he took a touch, set himself, then arrowed one in on his left foot. The right-footed defender was clearly at a bit of a disadvantage here, given the ball was coming in from the left. It suited Salah and Elliott, though.
But after plenty of neat touches and strikes, the Egyptian decided to go one better. He ignored the first part, meeting a cross full on the volley with as sweet a connection as you could imagine.
It absolutely flew into the top-right corner – leaving the watching Caoimhín Kelleher with his head in his hands.
“Here we go!” said Salah as you hear “Oh My God!” exclaimed in the background. Salah then directed everyone inside – no need to continue the drill after that one.
Mohamed Salah in Liverpool training
Salah hasn’t had the easiest go of things in recent weeks, so it’s fantastic to see him looking sharp here. The £34m man can certainly help Liverpool out if he’s firing efforts in like that.
And Liverpool certainly need Salah at his best if they’re to finally correct their form. He’s certainly had his moments this season – 17 goals and six assists in all competitions – but the 30-year-old hasn’t quite been at his best.
But maybe this is a sign that he’s finding his top level again. It certainly looked like it.
