Liverpool will get the chance to complete a transfer for Amadou Haidara, according to reports. The player has been compared to Naby Keita.
They’re not the only ones, however. Manchester United also like the RB Leipzig midfielder, while Brighton are currently bidding for the player.
The report claims that neither Liverpool or United will likely bid this month, however. Instead, they could take advantage of a clause that allows Haidara to leave Leipzig in the summer. Now they just need to hope he sticks around that long.
And it appears he will. Brighton have made an offer but the East German side have no intention to sell so late in the transfer window. Haidara should remain with Leipzig for the rest of the campaign, when he’ll be available in the summer.
Liverpool transfers: Amadou Haidara
Haidara’s an interesting one if only because of some comments made by former Leipzig sporting director Ralph Rangnick. He said back in 2019 that the midfielder could follow in the footsteps of a current Liverpool player.
“We’ve been following his progress in Salzburg as he’s developed into an absolutely exceptional player there,” he said, per Bundesliga.com. “There aren’t many players his age with so much potential.
“He has all the requirements to follow in Naby Keita’s footsteps.”
Now, some Liverpool fans may question whether those are footsteps you’d want to follow. Keita was an outstanding player for Leipzig, however – hence why the Reds paid so much for him.
Perhaps Haidara can be the player Keita was supposed to be, then. He’d certainly be cheaper, though he hasn’t had anywhere near the same kind of impact in the Bundesliga.
Keita is out of contract at Anfield this summer, too. Haidara could actually be a direct replacement, should Liverpool wish to trigger that clause.
