Anfield star Andy Robertson has claimed teammate Virgil van Dijk is trying to steal his Liverpool-mad friend off him – with that person being Grammy award-winning DJ Calvin Harris.

Taking to the latest episode of the ‘We are Liverpool’ podcast, the left-back spoke of how he got the world-famous artist to perform at the Reds’ trophy parade last year.

“We had it sorted for when we won the Premier League [in 2019-20],” said Robertson.

“I’d touched base with him – not tempting fate or anything – but I think we were maybe 15 or 18 points clear in February and I thought, ‘Right, let’s see if he’s available.’”

Despite winning the league title, COVID-19 restrictions meant a parade couldn’t take place. Instead, the Scotsman re-ignited the plans after Liverpool’s 2022 Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup triumph.

“I thought, let’s see if he wants to do it again,” he said.

“Luckily, Calvin was buzzing to do it. It’s probably one of the best sets he’s ever done, on a bus with players he loves watching and the fans and everything like that. It was different for him, he’s used to playing in stadiums, in Ibiza… It was fantastic. It’s something we’ll always remember.

“Now Virg is trying to steal him off me, I think big Virg is trying to best-mate him! We’ll let those two crack on, they’re a similar height!”

What a brilliant idea this was by Robertson. It truly made the Reds’ celebrations all the more special, and the entire squad looked like they were having the time of their lives.

Although, this parade would have been incredible in the aftermath of Liverpool winning the Premier League.

It was a huge shame to see any sort of celebration cancelled due to the pandemic, so at least the fans could take to the streets later down the line.

At the moment, it looks rather unlikely that there will be another parade anytime soon.

The Merseyside outfit face Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, so there may be a chance there.

However, the Reds are yet to play their round of 16 tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League. With the form the team has been in recently, we aren’t that optimistic.

Hopefully we are surprised by the performances and the results. Maybe Virgil can invite his new best mate down to DJ the after-party, if Liverpool come out victorious.
