Arsenal make 'sensational' Liverpool target their top transfer priority

Arsenal have made reported Liverpool transfer target Federico Chiesa their top priority in the transfer market.

That’s according to Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb. Having reported on Liverpool’s interest in Chiesa earlier in the week, they follow this up with claims that the winger is now Arsenal’s ‘number one goal.’

Mikel Arteta is said to be the main driver of the interest. And the willingness of the Gunners board to back their manager could reportedly be a factor, too.

But it’s claimed that Arsenal won’t have a free run at Chiesa, far from it. Liverpool’s interest is now said to be ‘full-blown,’ while Carlo Ancelotti would reportedly like him at Real Madrid.

Chiesa a ‘sensational’ option for Liverpool

If Chiesa really is on the market this summer, then Liverpool have to be in the picture.

The Reds were reportedly close to striking a deal for the Italy international before he joined Juventus. With the Serie A giants now facing sanctions for financial mismanagement, Chiesa looks like being one of their biggest assets. As a result, he could be up for sale.

A player in the 25-year-old’s mould isn’t necessarily top of Liverpool’s shopping list right now. But they arguably don’t have a player like him amongst their ranks.

Brilliantly two-footed, Chiesa could slot in on either flank. Crucially he could help ease the burden on Mohamed Salah.

With the Egyptian struggling to get going, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t really have anyone to pick up his slack. On the opposite flank, they have numerous top quality options when everyone is fit.

Likewise through the middle, they aren’t short of bodies and different types of players. But from the left there is only Mo. Chiesa could change that.

Unfortunately, he’s has lost a little of his speed and agility after suffering an ACL injury last year. That may be something that comes into Liverpool’s thinking.

Having coveted him in the past though, there’s a real chance that Klopp hasn’t lost interest in the Italian. At his best he’s a game changer. Fast and direct, Chiesa’s playing style has been called ‘sensational’ on Sky Sports whilst playing for Italy. If a player like that is available, you’ve got to get yourselves in there, Liverpool.
