Liverpool are on alert over Enzo Fernández, according to reports. The Reds rate the Argentinian midfielder very highly.
Chelsea are at the forefront and could still bid for the player this week. It’s something the Guardian have also suggested.
Benfica, though, don’t wish to sell. That opens the door for others to move in the summer – with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool all named.
The report claims Liverpool are ‘on alert’ over the Enzo situation and are prepared for any eventuality. In other words, they’re willing to move for the player if he’s available in the summer but are ready to lose out this month. Should Chelsea pay his release clause, that is.
And that’s what it would take. Benfica want a club to pay his £103m clause to get a deal done this month and won’t accept anything less. However, Enzo remaining with the club would see him demand a £1.5m loyalty bonus.
That’s a tricky situation, though, as the 21-year-old did go AWOL this month. He went back to Argentina without permission as he believed a transfer to Chelsea was imminent. Of course, that fell through.
Enzo Fernández and Liverpool
We only see Liverpool signing Enzo if the Jude Bellingham pursuit fails. However, that makes it important that he remains with Benfica until the summer.
For one, the Portuguese giants will likely accept less than his release clause or at least negotiate a fee. But it would also make the Bellingham negotiations a little easier if there is an elite alternative to him.
Enzo is exactly that and a player we’d be thrilled for Liverpool to end up with – anyone Lionel Messi calls ‘spectacular’ is a special player. We’re not surprised at all that they’re on alert over this one. Depending on how the next few months go, he could ultimately be the midfielder the Reds sign.
