Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic is expected to earn a call-up to Spain’s U21’s side, according to AS.
As per the report, the 18-year-old was excluded from La Roja’s most recent U19’s squad.
Rather than being dropped altogether, AS claim it is more likely that Spain have ‘bigger plans’ for the Reds midfielder.
As a result, he is expected to be a part of the U21’s ranks instead.
The Spanish national team want to make sure Bajcetic remains committed to his birth country, rather than making the switch to Serbia – who his father actually played for.
Spain are playing in the U21 European championships this year, so it will be interesting to see whether the Anfield starlet receives a call-up for the tournament.
Bajcetic to earn Spain U21’s call-up
Since coming into the first-team this season, Bajcetic has been sensational for Liverpool.
Thus far this term, the defensive midfielder has made four Premier League appearances, in which he has scored a single goal. Furthermore, he has also featured three times in the Champions League, illustrating how much faith Jurgen Klopp holds in the youngster.
He recently earned his first start in the Premier League, having played 82 minutes against Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp lavished praise on the teenager after the match, claiming he’s been ‘exceptional’ recently.
Going forward, Bajcetic should keep a strong position within the first-team. Fabinho has looked off the pace recently, and the 18-year-old has really stepped up.
Therefore, a call-up to a more senior level for Spain is very much deserved.
