Report: Liverpool now interested in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa

Liverpool are now interested in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, according to CalcioMercatoWeb.

As per the report, Jurgen Klopp is no longer convinced by Anfield star Mohamed Salah, and the Reds could subsequently explore selling him to Paris Saint-Germain.

As a result, it is suggested the Merseyside outfit could target the 25-year-old Italian a direct replacement.

It is believed Liverpool would accept an offer in the region of £70m for the ‘Egyptian king’, whilst it would only take £53m to sign the Turin superstar.

Having spent the last year out with a serious injury, the Italy international recently made his return to Juventus’s XI.

He is under contract with the Serie A club until June 2025.

Liverpool interested in Chiesa

If we’re purely focusing on Chiesa here, this would be an incredible signing for the Reds.

During his last full season at Juventus (that being 2020/21), the attacker scored 15 goals and made 11 assists in 46 games.

However, it was at Euro 2020 when the 25-year-old impressed at his highest level. Scoring in both the round of 16 and in the semi-final for Roberto Mancini’s side, Chiesa played a crucial part in helping Italy win the trophy. He looked electric on the ball, as he was always a constant threat cutting in off the wing. At the time, it was very evident he would have been a superb fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

As a result, he has been hailed by journalist Sam Tabuteau as a ‘sensational talent’. ITV pundit Joe Cole even claimed he hustles and bustles like ‘a young Luis Suarez’.

However, the Italian would only make the move to Liverpool if Salah was to depart beforehand.

This would be a sad end to the winger’s career on Merseyside, as he has arguably been the main player of the Klopp era.

This prospect could be true with Salah now 30 years old, but with everything he’s done for the club, it seems like an unlikely proposition. Now, all we can do is wait and see.
