Liverpool can help secure their dream transfer target by signing Mason Mount. Reports suggest they’re eager to get the Chelsea man.

The Guardian reports that Liverpool want Mason Mount. He’s out of contract at the end of the season, with Chelsea struggling to find a new deal.

Mount wants to be valued highly – meaning a substantial pay rise. Capology claims he’s on around £80k per week right now. The Blues aren’t sure they can give him that, especially with so many new additions.

Liverpool, though, will show how highly they value Mount simply by pursuing him. We’re ticking towards a time when they can offer him a contract. Chelsea, of course, will do all they can to tie him down before that’s possible.

We think Mount would be a great signing in his own right. He’s a fine player – one with the ability to dribble through midfield, while he enjoys the hard-pressing style that Jurgen Klopp wants.

He’s still only 24, too. There’s potential for Liverpool to improve Mount further, as they typically do with players in that age bracket.

But there’s another bonus to signing Mount.

Liverpool’s primary transfer target is Jude Bellingham, of course. Fabrizio Romano says they’re ‘obsessive’ about him and are desperate to add him to their squad later this year.

But Bellingham will cost a fortune and he’s not enough on his own. Liverpool need to rebuild their midfield with more than one player, especially as Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract this summer.

Paying £130m for Bellingham isn’t exactly easy. It becomes a lot more difficult when you also need to sign other midfielders on top of that.

Which is why a move for Mount would be ideal. He’s free, after all, and could add proven quality and international experience alongside Bellingham. All while taking nothing away from the Reds’ fund with a transfer fee.

We thought Liverpool might add Konrad Laimer on a free for similar reasons but he’s off to Bayern Munich. Mount is a fantastic alternative and one of the best possible signings to help on this rebuild.
