Jurgen Klopp wasnât happy with Joe Gomez for a sloppy back-pass during Liverpool vs Chelsea this afternoon.
Gomez put Alisson under pressure right at the end of the first-half at Anfield, selling the goalkeeper a little short with a pass. It wasnât the only time the Reds made their goalie stretch for a ball during the first-half.
And commentating for BT Sport, Liverpool legend Steve McManaman noticed Kloppâs furious reaction.
âJurgen Klopp again not happy,â he said. âYou donât need to go back to the âkeeper. You might as well clear your lines rather than the goalkeeper kicking it out of play.â
Liverpool causing their own problems
To be fair to Gomez and the rest of the Liverpool defenders, they usually know they can trust Alisson to deal with such passes.
But with things not exactly going their way at the moment, they donât need to invite this pressure.
It wasnât even ÂŁ3.5m man Gomezâs pass which was the most dangerous against Chelsea. Andy Robertson played one just minutes before which led to a corner being given away.
Declining the chance to hook a bouncing ball clear, Robertson jabbed a needless half-volley back to Alisson.
Caught a little by surprise and a little off balance, the âkeeper sliced a clearance out for a corner. With Liverpool failing to deal with set-pieces convincingly during the first-half, it could have been extremely costly.
In the end, it wasnât. But you can understand Jurgenâs reaction. Many in the crowd and watching at home would have been reacting the exact same way.
It also probably served as a reaction to the first-half as a whole. Liverpool were sloppy and second best for too much of todayâs game.
They improved at the start of the second-half, but couldnât find the killer goal. A point will have to do.
