Liverpool transfer news: Reds wait on signal to move for Moisés Caicedo

Liverpol are waiting on a signal to sign Moisés Caicedo, according to reports. The Brighton midfield is in high demand.

This comes from 90min. They claim that Moisés Caicedo has several clubs wanting to sign him in 2023.

They name Chelsea first and foremost before listing Liverpool, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Arsenal as potential suitors. However, all five clubs are waiting on the same thing.

That’s a signal from Brighton that they’re willing to do business here. There appears to be a sense that said signal will arrive eventually – but it may not arrive this month.

Brighton simply don’t believe that a suitable offer could arrive in January. Caicedo also has two years remaining on his contract after this season – so there’s not exactly a need to sell.

They’ll fancy their chances of holding onto him until at least the summer, where there will almost certainly be a fierce fight to sign the 21-year-old.

Moisés Caicedo chased by Liverpool

This certainly lines up with comments from Brighton CEO Paul Barber this week. He told Ben Jacobs that there haven’t been any offers for Caicedo and that he doesn’t wish to sell his ‘exceptional’ player.

There’s also a sense that Liverpool simply can’t afford him right now. The Athletic say as much, claiming the £70m price tag is beyond what the Reds would pay. So perhaps that’s less that they ‘can’t’ and more that they ‘won’t’.

But Caicedo is certainly a player Liverpool like. They’ve reportedly liked him for at least a couple of years now, since before his Brighton days.

We’re also big, big fans of Caicedo and feel he’s the kind of player Jurgen Klopp and co. work wonders with. Whether that’s worth £70m is up for debate.

As of now, though, no one is paying that for Caicedo, it seems. And unless Brighton show a willingness to sell, Liverpool will likely keep watching rather than chasing.
