Chelsea have bid for Liverpool target Moisés Caicedo, according to reports. The Blues’ bottomless pit of money continues to pay off.
This comes from the Athletic. They claim Chelsea continued on their path to collecting every footballer on the planet with a £55m bid for Moisés Caicedo.
The Blues sent the offer to Brighton in writing this week – but it was rejected. The Seagulls believe Caicedo is worth far more than that, it seems, and wouldn’t even consider the offer. £55m isn’t even worth a conversation, apparently.
Chelsea have a good reason to move for Caicedo, of course, with Graham Potter having managed him at Brighton. He actually labelled the 21-year-old ‘fantastic’ earlier this season before taking over at Stamford Bridge.
Brighton have no intention to sell Caicedo in this transfer window. And if you want to change their mind, it’s going to take an enormous offer.
Liverpool and Moisés Caicedo
This news is in line with previous reports. The Mirror claimed earlier this month that Brighton could sell, but that it would take a minimum of £60m to even start negotiations.
£55m clearly wouldn’t work – but maybe £60m truly is the mark here. Though, that still might be too much for Liverpool.
The Mirror’s report mentions the Reds as interested but per the Athletic, Liverpool feel he’s now overpriced. It’s a shame as the Reds reportedly started tracking him two years ago and rate him very highly.
We think he’s a brilliant young talent, too, and exactly the kind of player Liverpool work wonders with. Though, it appears any chance of a transfer comes down to Brighton lowering their valuation in the summer.
A January transfer looks to be off the table, unless someone pays a staggering amount for Caicedo. Now we’ll see if Chelsea are about to do just that.
