Journalist now shares possible time frame for Liverpool takeover, it could be really soon

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has now outlined a possible time frame fans could expect for Liverpool’s takeover to be completed.

Speaking with The Redmen TV about Fenway Sports Group’s situation at Anfield, the reporter suggested proceedings could be well and truly underway by April or May.

“Yeah, difficult to be quick on the takeover,” Jacobs said.

“I think the first thing to say is takeovers take time and the process has not developed to the point where we can definitively say, for example, there’s a preferred bidder, or even strategy.

“So, FSG are open to minority and full sales and therefore there’s a range of suitors both expressing interest and have already expressed interest, and the likely next step is that they will be put on a shortlist to FSG, and then the strategy of either for sale or minority investment will be established.

“It’s not as clear cut as it is with the Glazers and Manchester United, who would prefer a full sale, but are also looking at both options.

“In February, we’re going to start getting, what I think, declarations of interest, particularly if it’s an outright sale; minority investment might be a little bit more secretive. Usually after that point a preferred bidder or investor is chosen, they enter into an exclusive period. Due diligence takes place and then perhaps by April or May if it moves fast, we could have new investment or a new owner in place. If it’s a full sale it might be a little bit slower than the Manchester United time scale.

“Then, the thing that people always want to know is suitors and generally the noisier the suitor, the less substance there is to it. So don’t be surprised if someone creeps out of the woodwork and they’re a bit more silent.

“So, as I exclusively revealed, Sir Martin Broughton is not in the race, but that’s not to say that Harris Blitzer – who combined with Broughton’s trying by Chelsea – won’t explore a stake in either Liverpool or Manchester United, because they do want a Premier League asset. I sense unless they combine with a new partner, they would prefer minority investment to a full sale.”

Liverpool takeover could be complete by May

This is a lot sooner than one would have thought, especially with the recent update claiming FSG are yet to receive any concrete offers worth progressing.

However, while this is not expected news, it is certainly welcome.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad is screaming out for reinforcements, particularly in the midfield.

It appears unlikely that the Reds could sign these much-needed players this month, with it more likely that Cody Gakpo will be the club’s only signing in January.

However, if the Merseyside outfit complete a takeover before May, ahead of the summer window opening, then Klopp could be given the riches he needs to fix the issues within his squad – all before the start of next season.

This would be an ideal scenario, as it would be difficult to watch another season involving the same problems, which could ultimately be solved in the transfer market.
