Frank Lampard says player Liverpool sold in 2019 is absolutely 'fantastic'

Everton manager Frank Lampard has labelled former Liverpool player Danny Ings as a ‘top striker.’

Lampard is gearing up to come face-to-face with Ings this weekend, with the striker completing a move to West Ham United today. Asked via Football Daily for his thoughts on the move, the Everton boss praised the 30-year-old.

“He’s a fantastic striker. A really, really good striker. I’ve always had a lot of admiration for him as a player and as a lad,” Lampard gushed. “I don’t say I know him that well but he seems like a real team lad. He’s someone we’ll have to be aware of because he’s a top striker.”

Ings’ move to West Ham means he’s now played for three different Premier League clubs since leaving Liverpool permanently in 2019.

Ings on the move again

For one reason or another, Ings’ move to Aston Villa never quite worked out. His signing from Southampton in 2021 looked like a coup initially.

But during a year-and-a-half at Villa Park, the England international managed just 14 goals.

That’s still 10 more than he managed across three years at Liverpool, though. With injuries disrupting his time at Anfield, he ended up playing just 25 times.

Ings will be hoping for better at West Ham. Arriving in the middle of a relegation battle, he’ll have to hit the ground running for David Moyes’ side.

If he does, then perhaps he’s still got another upwards Premier League move left in him.

Ings certainly has plenty of admirers. As well as Lampard’s obvious admiration for him, Jurgen Klopp is another member of the Danny Ings fan club.

If it were up to Jurgen alone, maybe Ings would never have left Liverpool. But with his place in the squad very much reserved to back-up, the forward pushed to leave in 2018.

Having initially signed for Southampton on-loan, he completed a permanent move to St Mary’s a year later. Three-and-a-half years on and things have come apart at the seams a little for Ings. As Lampard’s words prove though, he’s still very well regarded. Best of luck in London, Danny.
