West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has told Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham that he should be signing for Liverpool.
Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast with Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson, the Hammers man claimed he now thinks the 19-year-old should make the switch to Anfield, having previously touted a move to Real Madrid.
“He was good,” said Wilson, speaking about Bellingham at the World Cup.
“It was the first time I’d seen him play because when I was in the squad last, he was probably 16. But he was good. He is a solid midfielder, he has everything; great feet, strong, quick, can finish. So, the world is his oyster.”
“I’ve changed my mind by the way I think he should come to the Premier League,” claimed Antonio.
“I think if he comes to Liverpool, what they have done, they have managed to keep Salah and stuff like that. They will rebuild, they will become good again, so I wouldn’t turn down Liverpool just because they’re having a bad season this year.”
Wilson responded, “Yeah but they might not be playing Champions League football next year and he needs to be playing on the biggest stage.” To which Antonio replied, “If you could pick a club for him who would you pick?”
“Newcastle obviously!” Wilson exclaimed.
“But for us we’re not at that level yet to get a player like Jude. He’s going to be very expensive. I’d love to have him at the club but it’s probably too soon by the way.”
Antonio thinks Bellingham should join Liverpool
This would be a big call from Bellingham, who could join any team in Europe if he wanted to.
Real Madrid are still at the top of their game, and they have prioritised bringing in the next generation of talent to replace their ageing superstars.
The 19-year-old would fit Los Blancos’ criteria perfectly. He would certainly have an illustrious career in the Spanish capital, where he would win many trophies.
Elsewhere, Manchester City have been dominating English football in recent years. Bellingham’s former Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland recently made the move to the Sky Blues, and he is yet to look back.
Although they haven’t looked at their best this season, Pep Guardiola’s side can always be sure to be challenging for the Premier League title, making their club an enticing prospect.
However, it is at Liverpool where Bellingham will be the main man. Jurgen Klopp would build his entire team around the teenaged midfielder.
Assuming the role of Steven Gerrard in the middle of the park, the England international would become the next hero at Anfield – destined for the captaincy.
If he can get the Reds back to firing where they once were, he will cement himself as a legend in Liverpool’s illustrious history, and a worthwhile purchase at £100m.
