The latest Liverpool transfer news suggests a complex deal for Arthur could be on the cards. The midfielder has barely played.
It’s a complex one, however. It would essentially mean Liverpool sending Arthur back to Juventus early in order for him to complete a move. We imagine the Reds would secure a portion of their loan fee back in any case.
Of course, the alternative is buying Arthur outright for £32m – as per the loan deal – and then selling him for a profit. We find it hard to believe that Palmeiras would spend anything like that, however.
Instead, this is more about Liverpool cutting ties early and saving some money. If, of course, the player and the clubs are interested.
Liverpool transfers: Arthur Melo
Arthur has been an absolute disaster of a transfer, of course. It hasn’t been his fault but this one will live in infamy.
He arrived with promise and we were on board with the idea. He got 13 minutes against Napoli as the Reds lost 4-1 away – not exactly the easiest debut – and then set about getting fit over an international break.
Arthur did just that, earning praise from the coaching staff for his efforts. However, injury then hit and the midfielder hasn’t been available since. Those 13 minutes remain all Liverpool have gotten for their money.
And so anyone would understand cutting the deal now and allowing Arthur to try again somewhere else. It will take him some time to get back up to speed with his fitness and given he’s not back yet, it’s hard to see him affecting anything this season.
It’s one that makes sense for everyone involved – as we see it.
