Liverpool transfers: Reds now in three-way race for 'exceptional' player

Liverpool are now in a three-way transfer race for Moisés Caicedo, according to reports. The young midfielder looks like a star.

This comes from Sky Sports via Football Daily. They claim that there’s now a three-way transfer race for Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea and Liverpool are supposedly two of the interested clubs. Sky don’t name the third, however, and make it clear that Brighton don’t wish to sell.

That’s something their CEO, Paul Barber, recently made very clear. The Seagulls love Caicedo and it would take a massive offer to sign the player he calls ‘exceptional’.

Caicedo would unquestionably be a fantastic signing and we’ve felt that for some time now. The youngster appears to have everything the Reds would want to develop a world-class player.

But Brighton know that. As do the people at Chelsea, many of whom have worked with Caicedo before. This won’t be an easy transfer to complete, especially as he has two years left on his contract.

It’s also unclear whether Liverpool even have the money for Caicedo. We’d likely be talking £60m plus and that’s a lot for any club that doesn’t have Chelsea’s seemingly bottomless pit of cash.

The real problem is that Liverpool almost certainly want to mount a pursuit of Jude Bellingham in the summer. £60m is a lot to spend before that deal is sorted and we just can’t see the club doing it.

At the same time, Caicedo would be a sensational signing at a time when Liverpool need one. Maybe that’s enough to magic up some money at an important moment.

We’re not exactly going to hold our collective breath on this one, though. Brighton are in a strong position and there are at least two other clubs in the running here. It would be a fierce fight but one we’re not certain Liverpool are 100 per cent in on.
