Liverpool transfers: Atalanta name their price for 19-year-old defender Giorgio Scalvini

Liverpool will have to pay £35m in order to sign defender Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that the Reds are ‘very interested’ in the 19-year-old defender.

The Italian outlet suggests that Atalanta know they won’t be able to hold onto Scalvini beyond this season. As a result, they are reportedly preparing themselves for an ‘auction’ to begin around the youngster.

Liverpool are said to be ready to insert themselves into any such bidding war. However, they may already be behind Juventus in the chase.

Calciomercato report that Juve have already held meetings with Scalvini in order to tempt him to Turin. Inter are also claimed to have been ‘moving for some time’ to finalise a deal.

Beyond the Italian giants, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund reportedly join Liverpool in their interest. It’s claimed that Atalanta have already ruled out a January sale. But come the summer, the race looks set to truly begin. The entry fee: £35m.

Scalvini on the market at the right price

Liverpool already look set to be involved in several high-profile bidding wars this summer. Most notably the Reds will try to win the giant tussle that Jude Bellingham’s talent has triggered.

In the meantime though, Scalvini is another youngster worth fighting over.

The 19-year-old looks remarkably accomplished for his age. Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has dubbed him as being ‘excellent’ via Goal, and he knows a player when he sees one.

Furthermore, Liverpool should be starting to look for their next leading centre-back. Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have shown this season that they won’t go on forever. The Reds need to be prepared for the future.

As a result, Scalvini would look like being a wise choice for that. The fee looks a little steep, but it’s a similar price to what Liverpool paid for Ibrahima Konate in 2022. What great business that looks like being.

The Italian would surely be another to file under that heading. There appears set to be fierce competition for him though, so Liverpool need to get a move on.
