Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rejected the calls suggesting he needs an overhaul of his squad.
The Reds looked extremely poor as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton, but the Anfield boss continues to insist that the solution isn’t to rebuild.
“It’s our fault you can ask that sort of question and I understand but it’s not like that,” Klopp said, as relayed by the Liverpool Echo.
“The changes had nothing to do with that. I can’t change offensive players because I don’t have, really, it’s not like I can say ‘oh, up front everything is all right but in midfield everything is not good, that’s why we changed it’. We are slightly limited but it’s our fault you have that impression.
“Who has had their best season yet for us? Yes, it is difficult [to name anyone], eh? But that’s the normal things that are coming up when you open the door for these kinds of questions and thoughts.
“I understand that, but we have to make sure you can’t ask these questions anymore, that’s our job.”
Klopp doesn’t think he needs to rebuild
Unlike any other big-six club, the manager doesn’t think an overhaul of the squad is the solution here. Yet, if other teams were in Liverpool’s position this season, that’s exactly what they would be doing.
Chelsea, for example, are just behind the Reds in tenth place. Having already brought in a number of young players for the future this window, they recently welcomed Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid. Furthermore, it appears they have now agreed an £88.7m deal for Ukrainian superstar Mykhaylo Mudryk.
While Liverpool have managed to land Cody Gakpo at Anfield, their biggest issue continues to lie in the middle of the park.
Therefore, if the club fail to bring in a midfielder – or two – this month, this is purely negligent behaviour from FSG.
Although Klopp may not think he needs to rebuild, the necessity for it has never been so desperate.
