Wolves are set to sit down with reported Liverpool target Ruben Neves to discuss his immediate future.
Neves is reportedly one of the names the Reds are considering to bolster their midfield. And now, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Wolves are ready to clear the air with the 26-year-old.
Romano goes on to claim that ‘many clubs’ are interested in doing a deal for Neves. However, the transfer expert doesn’t name any of these explicitally.
With Wolves having signed Mario Lemina and looking close to bringing in Joao Gomes, perhaps the door could be open for Liverpool.
Liverpool pushing hard to sign Neves
Looking at the business that Wolves are doing in the transfer window, it would suggest that a deal is possible for Neves. Both Lemina and Gomes could be direct replacements for the Portuguese.
However, it should also be noted that Neves has been a key player for Julen Lopetegui since he took over at Molineux.
The midfielder has played in every one of the Spanish coach’s time at the helm so far. Also taking the captain’s armband, Neves is a really big player for Wolves.
It’s been the same for a while now in truth. Former manager Bruno Lage called him a ‘special’ player via The Athletic last year. As a result, he isn’t going to come at all cheaply.

Still, that reportedly won’t stop Liverpool from trying. As per journalist Graeme Bailey for TeamTalk last month, the Reds have been doing ‘major work’ in order to get Neves to Anfield.
So far, that work hasn’t led to anything of note. Jurgen Klopp also suggested yesterday that Liverpool’s business for the winter window is already done. As a result, don’t expect a move for Neves anytime soon.
But with Wolves bringing in a couple of new midfielders, the groundwork looks like being laid for a summer move.
We can’t say that for certain yet. As his contract runs out in 2024, Wolves will be keen to get some clarity either way. Should Neves opt against staying at Molineux though, Liverpool should prepare to pounce.
