Former Liverpool player Jose Enrique has reacted with embarrassment to the Reds 3-0 loss against Brighton today.
Liverpool looked ragged and exhausted from the first minute of the game and were duly punished on the South Coast. And as Solly March’s first goal of the game went in, Enrique shared his thoughts on Twitter.
Posting eight ’embarrassed’ emojis, the Spaniard’s thoughts on the matter were clear.
He can’t have been the only one connected to Liverpool feeling the same way on Saturday afternoon. Another really, really poor performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side. Where do they go from here?
Liverpool plummet new depths on the South Coast
Of all of Liverpool’s pathetic displays this season, this might have actually been the worst. That isn’t the first time we’ve said that since August and it won’t be the last.
The Reds look bereft of even bothering to try anymore. Sloppiness reigned throughout the team. They looked resigned to losing from the first second.
Against a Brighton side full of verve and energy, Liverpool’s passiveness couldn’t have been more stark.
The result sees the Seagulls leapfrog the Reds into seventh place in the table. And, watching this, it’s an absolute puzzle how Liverpool are actually as high as they are.
The way they approached the game was like a team battling relegation. As usual, Klopp’s changes were too late and did nothing to change the shape or intensity of the team.
Something has to change. The manager might be furious over questions asked about bringing in new signings, but Liverpool cannot afford not to act.
Right now, they look favourites to lose every game they play. In a really competitive Premier League, they are being outbattled every match. How can you not be worried?
Hopefully this marks a low point of the season. It’s no disgrace to lose to Brighton these days, but there was simply no fight at all. There has to be radical, radical changes and they have to happen immediately. One way to do that is in the transfer market. Klopp can’t hide from it anymore.
