Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been approached about taking over as Poland national team manager.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Writing in his column for Caught Offside on Substack, Romano suggests that the move could be a possibility for Gerrard.
“There has been an approach from the Polish national team to Steven Gerrard,” he explains. “At the moment, it’s not advanced and it hasn’t changed yet. One to follow in the next days or weeks. No clubs are in talks with Gerrard as of now, we’ll see in the future.”
Not the job we thought we’d see Stevie take on, but an intriguing prospect all the same.

Big decisions for Gerrard
At this stage of Gerrard’s managerial career, this would be a bit of an odd step to take. Still inexperienced at club level, he needs to get games under his belt.
But, as Romano points out, no club seem willing to take a chance on him after a poor spell at Aston Villa.
As a result, perhaps it’s best that Stevie jumps at any chance he can get. If he lets himself drift out of the game, perhaps he’ll never be able to jump back in.
For someone who has thrown themselves into management with complete dedication, that would be a real shame.

So, maybe Poland could give Gerrard the perfect platform. He’d still get the chance to hone his managerial style but slightly away from the full glare of the world.
He’d also get the chance to work with some top players. Robert Lewandowski is still on the scene, while Piotr Zielinski heads up the rest of a very decent pool of players.
Previous managers have arguably underachieved slightly with Poland. Should Gerrard get the best out of them, it would at least put his name back on the map.
All of this and more is likely going through the Liverpool icon’s head as he weighs up the approach. One thing’s for sure though, he shouldn’t underestimate this. Poland is a football-mad country who hold their players to high standards. Let’s see what Stevie decides.
