Jurgen Klopp had the whole Liverpool squad singing for Melkamu Frauendorf in training today. The teenager joined the seniors.

Liverpool had Melkamu Frauendorf training with them on Thursday – a show of faith in the 19-year-old. Frauendorf has had some impressive performances at youth level this season and there’s a sense that he’s right on the cusp of more first-team football.

But Thursday was also a special day for the teenager. He turned 19 – and that meant an ovation from the Liverpool squad.

Jurgen Klopp led the seniors in singing Happy Birthday for Frauendorf in their usual way. That means a verse in every language around the squad – from English to Spanish through Greek and all the rest.

It’s always a fantastic scene when Liverpool do it and it was here again – they posted a video of it all on Twitter.

Melkamu Frauendorf for Liverpool

We fully expect to see Frauendorf next week, actually. Liverpool have their FA Cup replay against Wolves and the sense is that Klopp will heavily rotate his squad.

The game falls between two massive Premier League fixtures, after all. First comes Brighton on Saturday and then Chelsea four days after the cup tie. Putting the kids out makes a lot fo sense.

Frauendorf may get a chance, then. We’d assume the teenager would come off the bench – but he could start as he did in the EFL Cup against Derby County.

He impressed in that game, too, with a true moment of quality in the second half. As Liverpool look to integrate more youngsters into their first-team setup, Frauendorf will know that moments like that increase his chances greatly.

It’ll be interesting to see what Klopp goes for next Tuesday, then. We’re expecting some exciting youngsters to get the nod at Molineux – Frauendorf could well be among them.
