Former England international Sol Campbell has urged Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham to join Real Madrid over Liverpool.

According to The Mirror, the Arsenal hero has advised the 19-year-old to sign for Los Blancos, as they have an amazing track record of improving the world’s best youngsters.

“Real Madrid is obviously one of the great historical teams and the way he playing, if he goes in the same direction, he would be perfect for Real Madrid because he is very young,” said Campbell.

“He’s way ahead in a lot of things, he just needs the right club and the right manager to guide him in the right direction, that’s all, and the right environment, because sometimes you can go to the wrong environment and so you waste your talent for a few years.

“If he goes to Madrid, he will improve the team, but also the club can keep him in the future. It is a club that knows what to do with young players, to make sure they are going in the right direction and continue to perform.

“And at Real Madrid, if you’re good, you stay a long time. They keep all the really good players and Bellingham is one of the best young players. You just need the right environment to keep your feet on the ground and keep learning.”

Campbell urges Bellingham to join Madrid

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, although the race for Bellingham is wide open, Liverpool edge the pack as the frontrunners to his signature.

However, alongside Madrid, Jacobs also claims Manchester City and Chelsea cannot be ruled out of contention, meaning there is still a huge amount of competition for the Reds to beat.

Speaking of Campbell’s comments, whilst Madrid may be a strong option for the midfielder, Bellingham’s arrival at Anfield would be monumental.

Jurgen Klopp would build the team around the 19-year-old in the middle of the park. Furthermore, having already captained Borussia Dortmund, he would sure take the reins from Jordan Henderson as the club’s skipper – following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool are known for developing top talent. The likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were not world-class when they joined the Reds. However, Bellingham already is, so it is just a matter of seeing how much further the youngster can progress – having been hailed as ‘sensational’ by former Red Daniel Sturridge.
